  • The Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse will host its 15th Annual Gratitude Luncheon on Thursday, Mar. 12 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Hilton Santa Barbara Beachfront Resort, celebrating its Mentor Program with keynote speaker Rod Lathim (a native artist inspiring local youth).  Santa Barbara Independent

  • Tedeschi Trucks Band will perform with guest Lukas Nelson at the Santa Barbara Bowl on August 13, with gates opening at 4:30 p.m. and the show beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets go on sale Friday, Jan. 30 at 10 a.m.  Santa Barbara Independent

  • On Jan. 23, Cox Mobile announced 22 finalists from high school Boys and Girls Clubs in its Phone Case Design Contest. Local finalist Sara will join a February celebration and compete for a $25,000 scholarship and tech grant, with public voting open (until Feb. 28).  Santa Barbara Independent
  • Santa Maria-Bonita School District has launched its annual LCAP survey, open online through Friday, Jan. 30, to gather community input on how to direct millions in supplemental funding toward programs like translation services (and more).   • Santa Barbara Public Library invites teens in grades 7-12 to the Library Services Orientation held today from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Central Library’s Island Room (40 E.   • Dos Pueblos High School junior Johnny Duffy led the Ready Set Play Sports drive, collecting lightly used sports equipment for local youth last weekend — donation bins at Dos Pueblos and Goleta Valley Junior High received gear, and future drives will support Santa Barbara-area athletes.  Santa Barbara Independent
  • Former UC President Michael Drake spoke at UCSB’s Campbell Hall last Thursday during the Justice For All series as he reflected on crises like COVID-19, budget challenges, and graduate contract negotiations.   • The Community Environmental Council launches its Climate Stewards course today at its Environmental Hub on State Street. Teachers, students, business owners, and local leaders will receive hands-on training in environmental education and leadership to address local challenges.  KEYT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Caltrans is closing Highway 154 between Painted Cave Road and Camino Cielo Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday as crews clear debris and repair safety features; drivers are rerouted to Highway 101 with delays up to 30 minutes, and work will finish Friday at 1 p.m.  KSBY
