  • Local Marine veteran Adrian Marquez, who faced PTSD after service, now runs Mr. Kezy EZ Salsa and works with Semper Fi & America's Fund to help other veterans find support. His business offers online salsa orders as he transforms hardship into hope through community and entrepreneurship.  KEYT

  • Lucky Penny is hosting a weekend pop-up from Feb. 14 - Feb. 16 at 11:30 a.m. at 2902 San Marcos Ave in Los Olivos to preview its wood-fired pizzas, salads, and small plates ahead of the new location’s full opening.  Edhat

  • Film festival fans at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival enjoy front row access today at the Arlington Theatre (a designated area for celebrity tributes) as stars exit a special vehicle and sign autographs, delighting their supporters.  KEYT
  • The documentary Tenor – My Name is Pati revisits the story of operatic tenor brothers from New Zealand who grew up in Samoa and later found success. It was shown on Feb. 10 during the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, which runs until Feb. 14.  Edhat
  • Scottish violin virtuoso Nicola Benedetti returned last week to Campbell Hall in Santa Barbara for a creative recital styled like a café — performing with accordionist Hanzhi Wang, guitarist Plinio Fernandes, and cellist Adrian Daurov while blending classical pieces with Scottish folk tunes.  Santa Barbara Independent
  • The Lobero Theatre in downtown is set to add a new backstage area + banquet hall and rooftop deck following unanimous approval from the Historic Landmarks Commission on Jan. 28. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Santa Barbara Planning Commission approved an expansion of Cottage Health’s Orfalea Children’s Center—a new two-story, 6,847 sqft building at Castillo and Los Olivos streets designed for infants and preschoolers. Construction will begin early 2027 after permits are finalized to ease the waitlist of over 300 healthcare employees.  Santa Barbara Independent
  • Santa Barbara City Council approved new rules on Tuesday banning single-use plastic items like styrofoam containers, plastic cutlery, water bottles, confetti, mylar balloons and carryout bags. The ordinance, which also sets a 10% reusable cups requirement at permitted events, will become effective 40 days after its next reading.  Noozhawk
  • Santa Barbara Harbor faces a $4 million shortfall for maintenance dredging after a federal budget cut removed longstanding funds. Waterfront Director Mike Wiltshire said the final cycle is scheduled for late February to maximize funding and keep the harbor safe for ocean businesses.  Santa Barbara Independent

  • Santa Barbara Neighborhood Clinics reminds residents to practice heart-healthy habits during American Heart Month.   • Cottage Health is expanding pediatric care in Santa Barbara with the new Grotenhuis Pediatric Clinics on Bath Street—located just steps from Cottage Hospital to offer quick access to additional services.   • UCSB baseball is back with returning players & new talent as they aim to rebound from last season. The team will open on Friday, Feb. 13 at Southern Mississippi before hosting Portland on Friday, Feb. 20.  Santa Barbara Independent
  • Santa Ynez High girls beach volleyball won a 3-2 match over Dos Pueblos on Tuesday in Santa Ynez as teams kept errors low in stormy conditions, while Santa Barbara High swept Santa Monica and will face Santa Ynez in a nonleague game on Thursday at 3 p.m. at East Beach.  Noozhawk
  • Santa Barbara High girls water polo secured a 14-13 playoff win in sudden-death triple overtime Tuesday in Huntington Beach. Jules Horton scored the game-winner, and the Dons will face Temple City in the quarterfinals on Friday at 5 p.m.  Noozhawk
