COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Ice in Paradise will partner with the Santa Barbara Dads Group to host a free Dad and Kids Meetup on Sunday, Apr. 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will feature a 30-minute skating lesson (11–11:30 a.m.) followed by open skate, with food available for purchase at Rinkside Café.  Noozhawk
  • SB Humane features Adelaide, an adoptable cat at the Santa Maria Campus where adoptions run daily from 12pm to 4:30pm except Wednesdays. The process includes spaying/neutering, vaccinations, microchipping, a complimentary veterinary exam, and a brief supply of food (no appointment needed).  Edhat

CULTURE NEWS

  • UCSB’s Carsey-Wolf Center will host a free talk with Hollywood Reporter executive editor Scott Feinberg on Tuesday, March 3 at 7 p.m. He will discuss the Oscars race and awards season as part of his film coverage, inviting UCSB, Goleta and local film fans (reservations recommended).  Noozhawk
  • Chef Sergio Chierego launched Pasta Santini at 4185 Carpinteria Ave. in Carpinteria, serving traditional Southern Italian pasta made with small-batch techniques and Mediterranean grains. The venture already sells in local markets and aims to reach 100 stores by year’s end.  Noozhawk
  • Artist Rod Lathim filled Art & Soul Gallery with neon art during his show Lit-Love-Illumination-Transcendence, where buyers purchased vibrant works inspired by musical instruments & famous art.   • Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Bret Stephens spoke last Friday at Westmont College's President's Breakfast at the Hilton Santa Barbara Beachfront Resort. He discussed the growing challenges for Jewish Americans and received the Westmont Leadership Medal for his journalism.  Noozhawk
  • Dos Pueblos High School has been named a recipient of the 2026 First Amendment Press Freedom Award by Santa Barbara Unified School District.   • A UC Santa Barbara research team published a new technique using gold catalysis that efficiently synthesizes non-natural amino acids—ready for immediate peptide construction to boost biomedical research. The method promises to simplify drug development for enhanced peptide therapeutics.  Edhat

SPORTS NEWS

  • Santa Barbara High won third place by beating San Marcos 5-1 in the tournament’s third-place match on Friday and Saturday in the second annual All-Doubles Tournament, where teams from Southern California competed in six doubles matches and San Marcos coach Emily Carver said the event revealed team improvement areas.  Noozhawk
  • Westmont Men’s Basketball lost 76-66 to Point Loma on Saturday in their regular-season finale. The Warriors now look ahead to the conference tournament at Golden Gymnasium, with semifinal play starting Friday.  Noozhawk
  • The CIF-SS champion Bishop Diego girls basketball team, now 27-4, drew the No. 14 seed and will face third-seeded Carlsbad Tuesday night after winning its fourth title Saturday at Azusa Pacific University — while St. Joseph teams have received regional bids for contests on Tuesday and Wednesday.  Noozhawk
