  • The Junior League of Santa Barbara hosts its annual Rummage Sale at Carrillo Recreation Center with a pre-sale event on Friday, Mar. 13 (6pm–9pm) and a main sale on Saturday, Mar. 14 (8am–1pm).   • The Downtown Santa Barbara Improvement Association invites community members to join the SuperMoss grand opening and ribbon cutting on Thursday, March 19 at 4:00 p.m. at 922 State Street+ the business has grown from a small garage operation into a trusted provider for local floral designers.  Santa Barbara Independent

CULTURE NEWS

  • Juneteenth Santa Barbara will host its 2026 Love for The People Celebration — with live music, art, food and cultural performances that honor Black history — on Friday, June 19 at Plaza Del Mar from 11 am to 6 pm.   • On March 3, UCSB Arts & Lectures hosted donors with a dinner and reception at Villa & Vine, sponsored by Northern Trust, ahead of the first performance of the Jerome Robbins Ballet Festival curated by Tiler Peck.   • On March 9, regular gas in Santa Barbara rose to $5.11 a gallon, increasing from $5.08 the previous day and $4.57 a week ago - the surge is linked to global market tensions and state fuel blend rules.  Edhat

  • Dos Pueblos High School clinched its fifth consecutive county mock trial win by beating San Marcos High over the past weekend and will represent the county at the state finals in Oakland from March 20–22.  Edhat
  • The Santa Maria-Bonita School District recently modernized nearly all its school libraries with new shelving, mobile flexible units, updated furniture, dynamic displays, and 300 new books per site — improvements supported by Title I funding that boost student learning and discovery.  KEYT
  • Dos Pueblos High students Adam Costa and Ethan Gardiner won a nationwide financial literacy video contest, with Costa receiving a $10,000 prize from Montecito Bank & Trust and Gardiner winning $5,000 from American Riviera Bank as both will be honored on campus today.  KEYT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Community Environmental Council announced a year-long series of events called 'A Year of Active Hope' to help residents learn about sustainability and community engagement at the CEC Environmental Hub — the program includes film screenings, talks and workshops aimed at climate action.  KEYT

HEALTH NEWS

  • VCA Care Specialty and Emergency Animal Hospital (closed after a temporary construction shutdown last June) at 301 E. Haley St. has permanently closed, leaving local pet owners to use Advanced Veterinary Specialists at 414 E. Carrillo St. for 24/7 care.  Noozhawk
  • The County Department of Health and partners will hold the Clinical Implementation Forum on Long COVID and related IACCI on Mar. 21 from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Hotel Mar Monte in Santa Barbara.
