  • Community members are searching for the missing 25-foot tomol after it was found absent from its usual spot on West Beach over the weekend. The Barbareño Chumash Tribal Council plans to work with police (who consider the case civil) to locate the canoe.  Noozhawk
  • A GoFundMe has been launched to help local fire captain James Mellor cover medical costs and rehabilitation after he suffered a stroke; donations are coming from community members + firefighting crews across the county.  Santa Barbara Independent
  • The Good Samaritan Shelter has launched the Good Samwich food truck at Old Mission, serving as a culinary job training program where participants gain hands-on experience + work toward stable employment.  KEYT

CULTURE NEWS

  • Alta Vista Tours launches PhD-led stargazing tours on Saturday, March 28. UCSB PhD students will guide guests from downtown to nearby dark skies for a 90-minute telescope session with hot beverages and additional tour dates planned in April.  Santa Barbara Independent
  • Grammy Award-winning guitarist Carlos Santana will perform two concerts for his Oneness Tour 2026 at the Santa Barbara Bowl on Sept. 12 and Sept. 13. Tickets go on sale March 13 at 10 a.m. and each ticket sale donates $1 to the Milagro Foundation (supporting programs for underserved children).  Edhat
  • UCSB Arts & Lectures hosted a two-day Jerome Robbins ballet festival curated by Tiler Peck at the Granada Theater on March 3-4, featuring principal dancers from top companies and live music from the NYCB Orchestra and Santa Barbara Symphony.  Santa Barbara Independent
  • Not Half Bad Theatre Company's debut production, The Story of War, offers Santa Barbara a quirky half-improv comedy that nods to historic Disney animatronics (an homage to theme park attractions).   • The SBCC Theatre Group is staging A Small Family Business at the Garvin Theatre until March 21. Written by Alan Ayckbourn and directed by Katie Laris, the play follows a family running a furniture business amid internal corruption + overlapping home scenes set on one stage.  Santa Barbara Independent

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At Goleta's Ice in Paradise, the new Success Center offers a quiet space for young skaters to do homework and get volunteer tutoring. Twelve-year-old Sophia Berar credits the center with boosting her math score, and local organizers plan to expand the program soon.  Noozhawk

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Forty Italian Stone Pines have been planted on Anapamu St. to revive a historic drive after aging trees fell from harsh weather. Santa Barbara Beautiful (donating $2,700) worked with city Parks and Recreation and Forestry Division to plant these three-year-old trees.  KEYT
  • The city launched Own Your Impact—a monthly sustainability challenge offering prizes to help locals build green habits; the program starts in March with the Protect What You Love theme and runs through December to encourage environmental actions by residents and businesses.  Santa Barbara Independent

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Santa Barbara County Health Department together with The Chesley Initiative, CenCal Health, the James S. Bower Foundation and Cottage Health will host the California Clinical Implementation Forum on Long COVID & IACCI on March 21 at 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Mar Monte Hotel. The free event will feature panelists discussing new diagnostic frameworks and treatment models to improve care.  Noozhawk

  • UCSB honored its basketball players as the Big West Awards recognized Aidan Mahaney on the men's All-Big West First Team and freshman CJ Shaw on the Second Team, while Zoe Borter earned Second Team honors and teammates Olivia Bradley and Skylar Burke received honorable mentions ahead of the championships.  KEYT
  • At Monday’s SBART Press Luncheon, Carolina Duron Angeles received the Phil Womble Ethics in Sports Award and Dos Pueblos freshmen Matt Di Maggio and Emily Morici were honored as Athletes of the Week.
