  • C.A.R.E.4Paws launched a confidential, free emergency boarding facility (providing daily care and vet support) to help local pet families facing crises like domestic abuse and displacement; the program is raising funds and donations to cover care needs.  Edhat

CULTURE NEWS

  • La Piazza Italian Music and Food Festival will run from April 10 to April 12 at Santa Barbara Public Library’s Faulkner Gallery & Towbes Plaza. The free, three-day event will include concerts, film projections & workshops, food tastings and cultural seminars celebrating Italy’s traditions.  Noozhawk
  • A post-quake building designed in March 1926 by A.C. Sanders for Fergusons features 11 arches on its façade and additional arches inside at 10 E. Figueroa, which now houses Santa Barbara Interiors.  Edhat

ECONOMY NEWS

  • On Friday, leaders from government, industry, and academia gathered at UC Santa Barbara to examine quantum physics research and its potential for boosting local industries and job growth.   • Santa Barbara Zoo held a two-day workshop with AZA-accredited institutions to share updated enrichment practices for animal care, featuring a live demonstration for Tamur (the Amur leopard) that mimicked natural hunting cues.   • UC Santa Barbara’s Army ROTC Surfrider Battalion earned a spot at Sandhurst Military Skills Competition at West Point after finishing second among 34 teams at Fort Hunter Liggett in February. They will compete May 1—2 against teams from around the world.  Edhat

HEALTH NEWS

  • The state has announced its intent to award $20 million for two (16-bed) behavioral health residential treatment facilities in Santa Maria near the North Branch Jail; the funding is pending Board of Supervisors approval and construction is expected to complete by fall 2029.  Noozhawk
  • More than 50 volunteers distributed Narcan to students on Wednesday in Isla Vista as County Supervisor Laura Capps joined efforts ahead of spring break, aiming to equip peers with a tool for emergency overdose response — a measure to potentially save lives.  KEYT

SPORTS NEWS

  • The SoCal Women’s Pro Flag Football League has delayed its inaugural season to May, 2027 and will host the All-Star Tour in summer 2026 in Santa Barbara, where tryouts will pick nine players per county team led by high school flag football coaches; this test market event will compensate participants.  Noozhawk
  • Local prep track & field teams ran non-league meets on Saturday. San Marcos Royals broke records at the Spartan Relays while Santa Barbara and Carpinteria High competed at the Thousand Oaks Invitational, and Santa Barbara High junior Elina Stump qualified for the Nike Indoor Nationals in New York.  Noozhawk
  • The San Marcos swim team competed on Saturday at the Mt. San Antonio College Invitational in Walnut and finished 16th out of over 90 schools. The team will face Oxnard on Monday and Nolan Clark broke the team record in the 100 butterfly.  Noozhawk
  • Local high school teams played in the 49th annual Dos Pueblos Invitational at UCSB on Saturday. San Marcos placed second and Santa Barbara High finished third among 28 teams — marking another competitive day in our community.  Noozhawk
  • The Gauchos upset the Anteaters in a five-set match Friday night at The Thunderdome, highlighted by Bruening's 20 kills and season-high 22 points. They will host Cal Lutheran Tuesday, March 24 at 7:00 p.m.  Noozhawk
  • Carpinteria High’s baseball team won an 8-3 game against Santa Clara on Saturday in Carpinteria (the Warriors improved to 7-0 and will face Fillmore in a Citrus Coast League matchup on Wednesday).  Noozhawk
