  • UCSB students launched the new ‘Rate My Landlord’ website for Isla Vista residents to read and post anonymous reviews about landlords using email registration — the site aims to help renters learn about potential leases and guide landlords in improving properties; marketing flyers are circulating on campus.  Noozhawk
  • Unity Shoppe is hosting its Spring Food Drive from today to April 17 to collect non-perishable food for free grocery programs that support families in Santa Barbara County. The drive includes the 4th Annual Trapeze Event on April 11 — a family-friendly community celebration.  Edhat

CULTURE NEWS

  • Tiffany Chung’s mid-career exhibition opens at UCSB’s Art, Design & Architecture Museum from Jan. 17 to April 26, showcasing over 70 artworks that map human history and deep geological time. The Vietnamese American artist, a UCSB alumna, uses detailed maps and mixed media (including embroidery and video) to show stories of migration and climate shift.  Edhat
  • This week, the variable star Mira is visible in the southwestern sky just after dark (its 11-month cycle makes it brighten and dim), giving locals a chance to spot it near Venus and the Cetus constellation.  Noozhawk
  • UCSB Arts & Lectures will host historian Ibram X. Kendi on Thursday, April 7 at 7:30 p.m. at Campbell Hall where he will discuss his book, Chain of Ideas: The Origins of Our Authoritarian Age; tickets cost $30 and free entry is available to UCSB students with an ID.  Noozhawk

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dos Pueblos High School and La Colina Junior High School have been named to the 2026 California Distinguished Schools Program, making them the only South Coast schools and two of four county schools to earn this honor. The award recognizes academic excellence and progress as measured using 2025 data.  Edhat
  • The Scholarship Foundation honored 20 high school artists Tuesday, Mar. 3 at Art & Soul Gallery in Santa Barbara. Winners received scholarships between $3,000 and $3,500 as part of the 2026 Art Scholarship Competition.  Edhat

  • More than 500 guests attended the Tiara Ball at The Ritz-Carlton Bacara on an evening to mark the Cottage Hospital Foundation’s 20th anniversary. The gala raised over $775,000 to support pediatric care at Cottage Children’s Medical Center — featuring special recognition for Athena Sunderland and an underwater-themed décor.  Noozhawk
