  • Tiny is a nearly 3-year-old white and brown Pit Bull Terrier weighing around 52 pounds and available for adoption at the Lompoc Animal Center (1501 West Central in Lompoc). Visitors can come from Tuesday through Sunday to learn more about adopting this sweet dog.  Edhat
  • More than 185 community members gathered at Blue Water Ball, celebrating Channelkeeper’s 25 years of protecting local waters and raising over $190,000 for water quality programs.   • A UCSB report presented on March 3 finds Santa Barbara’s creative economy generated $3.82 billion in activity and supports 11,232 jobs, contributing nearly $1.3 billion in labor income and $469 million in tax revenue, highlighting its role in local economic growth.  Noozhawk
  • On March 13, UCSB hosted leaders from science, industry, and government to plan ways to boost quantum research and local tech jobs on the Central Coast; discussions featured expanding shared lab space (105,000 sqft OASIS) and streamlining processes.  Edhat

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Santa Barbara Wildlife Care Network reported an influx of sick California brown pelicans in early March. The group took in 32 birds & received more reports of distressed birds along freeway shoulders in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties, while the cause remains unknown.  Edhat
  • BOEM has no public record of a spill-response bond from Sable, raising concern in Santa Barbara, which already faced major oil spills in 1969 and 2015. Without a cleanup bond (if aging equipment fails), residents may end up paying costly damages.  Santa Barbara Independent

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city is seeking qualified operators to run Casa Cacique, a shelter at 816 Cacique St, through an RFP process. Questions will be accepted until (5 p.m. Monday, Apr. 6) and proposals are due by (5 p.m. Tuesday, Apr. 21) with City Council review expected by June.  Noozhawk

  • Local Westmont graduate Michael Stefanic and former UCSB infielder Marcos Castañon posted high spring averages but have been reassigned to minor league camps. The players (both earning notable stats) remain determined to improve their profiles for a Major League call-up.  Noozhawk
  • UCSB softball swept UC Riverside with scores of 14 to 4 and 11 to 1, giving coach Jo Evans her 1,400th career win and 100th win with the Gauchos; Bella Fuentes starred as the team improved to a 9-0 record in Big West play.  KEYT
  • At Arroyo High School in El Monte on Saturday, Dos Pueblos track & field athlete Ashton Smedley made program history by finishing the mile in 4:11.87 and outpacing teammate Owen Abbott, who set a record last week at the Nike Indoor Nationals.  Noozhawk
