  • Chocolats du Calibressan in Carpinteria enters a new chapter as master chocolatier Jean-Michel Carré retires after 18 years; the Weigel family, trained with him for three months, will keep his cherished recipes and warm service.  KEYT
  • Local producers, conservationists and community members will gather at Larner Vineyard in Solvang on June 7 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. for an outdoor, farm-to-table dinner featuring handcrafted cocktails by Rock 12 Distillery & seasonal wines, followed by a guided tour of the vineyard.  Noozhawk

CULTURE NEWS

  • The annual 40th Kite Festival at Santa Barbara City College has been postponed to April 19 because of rain and will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Great Meadow (west campus lawn), celebrating the theme You and Me.  KEYT
  • After opening Friday, the Italian festival La Piazza continues today and Sunday with live concerts at Faulkner Gallery and Italian food plus workshops at Towbes Plaza. Saturday’s (3 p.m.) concert will feature violinist Jessica Guideri while the festival also offers a culture seminar and kids’ activity.  Noozhawk

  • Old Spanish Days organizers have revealed 20 Spirit finalists who will perform at the sold-out Lobero Theatre tonight; the group includes 10-year-old Penelope Hernandez and 17-year-old Emilio Gonzales, with winners to be announced today as Fiesta kicks off Aug. 5-9.  KEYT
  • UC Santa Barbara professor Shana Moulton will speak at the Humanities Decanted series on April 21 at the McCune Conference Room (6020 HSSB) where she will present her performance piece Meta/Physical Therapy and discuss her creative process in a site-specific installation from her Whispering Pines series.  Noozhawk
  • Disclosure performed two back-to-back shows at the Santa Barbara Bowl earlier this week, kicking off a season with 29 upcoming concerts featuring acts like Carlow Santana, Bob Dylan, and Jack Johnson. A portion of ticket sales goes toward local arts education.  KEYT
  • Santa Barbara Symphony will perform an American-themed concert on April 18 and 19 featuring Gershwin, Ives, and a special work by Higdon (commissioned for Curtis Institute).   • Orcutt Academy High School will host the Every15 Minutes program to teach teens about impaired driving, starting with a crash simulation at 10 a.m. April 16 and followed by a student assembly at 10 a.m. April 17 in the school gym.  Noozhawk

  • Avian researcher Dan Robinette presents an illustrated lecture on coastal seabird conservation at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 28 in Fleischmann Auditorium (Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History).   • Retired Santa Barbara officer Mike McGrew co-founded 911 At Ease International to provide free mental health support for first responders and their families after traumatic calls.
