- ➤ Santa Barbara Education Foundation will honor public education heroes at the Hope Awards event from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on April 24th at the Santa Barbara Historical Museum. - ➤ The Santa Barbara Earth Day Festival will run at Alameda Park from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 26 and from 1 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 27. Now in its 55th year, the event will feature an Environmental Hero Award for professor Leah Stokes and eco-friendly activities (including a Green Car show, live music, and a plant-forward food court) to boost renewable energy efforts. - ➤ Environmental groups and the Center for Biological Diversity filed separate lawsuits in Santa Barbara Superior Court on April 15 contesting that state officials issued illegal waivers to Sable Offshore to run oil pipelines without standard corrosion protection—plaintiffs demand that the waivers be rescinded until public hearings and environmental reviews take place. - ➤ San Marcos High athlete Avery Leck earned a lifetime best of 4603 points at the Arcadia Invitational last weekend when she finished fourth in the heptathlon—she set strong marks in several events. - ➤ On Tuesday, Dos Pueblos boys lacrosse clinched the league title with a 16 to 3 win over Santa Barbara High at Peabody Stadium, outscoring the Dons 11 to 0 in the second half and remaining the only undefeated team in California (they are ranked No. 13 and will play one more regular season game).
