- ➤ Cycling Without Age, led by retired teacher John Seigel-Boettner — who started the chapter in 2018 — is partnering with local artists to create seven new trishaws that offer older residents a chance to enjoy rides outdoors. - ➤ The Brazilian Cultural Arts Center of Santa Barbara will host its first-ever Latin Festival and Salsa Social on May 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the historic Alhecama Theatre downtown, and the event will include a salsa lesson by Erika Martin Del Campo, live music from Invasion Latina, dance performances by A Mi Manera Dance Company and Agua Doce Dance Company, Brazilian cuisine, and a raffle with prizes — a family-friendly celebration open to all ages. - ➤ Santa Barbara City Council voted four to two on Tuesday to tighten tenant protections against renovictions by capping rent increases at ten percent for renovated units and by requiring third party contractor verification plus a cooling-off period—measures that aim to protect over 100 tenants affected since 2023—and city staff will return with an ordinance next week while considering an appeals process for landlords.
