  • CycleMAYnia returns this May with 30+ biking events by community groups to bring Santa Barbara residents together during National Bike Month. The events begin with Earth Day activities Apr. 25–26 at Parque Alameda (check SBCAG for details) and include family rides, safety workshops and an employer bike challenge (trophy awarded).  Santa Barbara Independent

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Santa Barbara Airport has launched two nonstop routes for travelers, with United Airlines beginning daily flights to Chicago on April 6 and Alaska Airlines starting twice-daily service to San Diego on April 22. CULTURE NEWS

  • Santa Ynez Valley Pride will host its 5th Annual Parade & Festival on Saturday, June 13 in Solvang. The parade runs from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. along Copenhagen Drive and the festival takes place from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Solvang Park.  Santa Barbara Independent
  • Beck — a Grammy Award-winning alt-rock icon — will perform his Ride Lonesome Tour at Santa Barbara Bowl on Sept. 22. The show begins at 7 p.m. with gates opening at 5:30 p.m. and tickets go on sale today at 10 a.m.  Edhat

  • Santa Barbara City College released its first annual Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee report on April 22 to update the community on how Measure P funds, including $198 million for campus improvements such as a 77,000+ sqft athletics building, were managed responsibly.  Santa Barbara Independent

  • Ty Warner’s San Ysidro BB Property is proposing a permit revision to convert a habitat restoration project at San Ysidro Ranch into a botanical garden (the plan is under County review) while early work appears to have begun nearby.  Santa Barbara Independent
  • Blue Velella, also known as by-the-wind sailors, have been spotted on Santa Barbara and Goleta beaches as spring winds carry them ashore. Scientists say not to touch them because they can irritate skin while advising dog owners to keep pets away + share photos to help track climate trends.  Edhat

  • A new study by UCSB and Columbia shows many 'clean' hair products for textured hair contain hazardous ingredients like fragrances (which may hide endocrine disruptors) and inconsistent labeling, leaving women of color at risk.   • COPE Intensive Outpatient Programs offers flexible behavioral health care for individuals managing mental health and substance use disorders.   • Today near La Cumbre Plaza, the Housing Authority broke ground at 15 South Hope Ave for a four-story project with 45 affordable units.   • Westmont’s Hannah Camara won the PacWest Women’s Golf Championship this week with a tournament-best 68, becoming the school’s first PacWest individual champion.
