BUSINESS NEWS

  • Ten organizations and individuals will be honored at the South Coast Business & Technology Awards ceremony on June 17 at the Hilton Santa Barbara Beachfront Resort. Net proceeds from the event will benefit the Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara, which has provided over $3.2 million in scholarships since 2001.  Noozhawk

CULTURE NEWS

  • Santa Barbara Maritime Museum will host The Swiftest Recovery: Island Fox Chronicles from May 22 to August 24, featuring environmental photographer Chuck Graham’s photos that capture the island fox’s rapid comeback through local conservation efforts—showing a striking story of nature's resilience. The exhibition will let visitors view images taken on water and land to highlight a successful wildlife recovery project.  Santa Barbara Independent

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Organic Soup Kitchen in Santa Barbara is asking residents to help raise $100,000 to expand its solar energy system and secure frozen, nutrient-rich meals for vulnerable groups. Executive Director Anthony Carroccio said the solar expansion will protect these lifesaving meals—ensuring a steady power supply during outages.  Santa Barbara Independent
  • Today the Santa Barbara Earth Day Festival is at Alameda Park from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.—featuring environmental awards, a green car show, panel talks, and live music—and is free for tens of thousands of attendees. Organizers from the Community Environmental Council and CarpEvents provided full schedules and maps for the event.  Santa Barbara Independent
  • Today, the Festival del Día de la Tierra runs at Parque Alameda from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and will continue tomorrow from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.—the free event features local food, music, environmental panels, vehicle tests, and an award ceremony for environmental leaders—and community exhibits and family activities across town.  Santa Barbara Independent

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Santa Barbara County officials held a ceremony Friday to mark the completion of the Summerland and Padaro sections of the Highway 101 widening project—workers will finish the northbound lanes this summer and begin the southbound work later, with the final Santa Barbara and Montecito segments set for 2026 to 2028. The project adds new ramps, sound walls and carpool lanes as part of a $700 million final phase funded by federal, state and local money.  Noozhawk

HEALTH NEWS

  • Ridley-Tree Cancer Center has expanded its prostate cancer treatment using the injectable radioligand therapy Pluvicto, which targets high-dose radiation directly to metastatic tumors following recent FDA approval. The new use tripled patient eligibility + clinical trials showed a 59% reduction in the risk of progression.  Noozhawk

  • Six Santa Barbara high school boys volleyball teams are set to begin CIF-SS playoffs next week—San Marcos, Dos Pueblos, Santa Barbara, Bishop Diego, Laguna Blanca and Carpinteria have matchups scheduled at local venues on Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday at 6 p.m.  Noozhawk
  • The UCSB Baseball team dropped its series opener 6—4 against UC San Diego Friday night after early errors and unearned runs handed the Tritons a lead, while key home runs by McCollum and Vargas sparked a late rally. They will play again today—at 2 p.m. at Triton Ballpark.  Noozhawk
