  • Marybeth Carty, known for her decades of service & leadership in local volunteer work, will be honored at the Santa Barbara Foundation’s 83rd Person of the Year Awards luncheon. The event will be held on Apr. 29 at the Hilton Santa Barbara Beachfront Resort.  Noozhawk
  • Hundreds attended Goleta's fourth Annual Senior Expo at the Community Center auditorium on April 23, where 48 vendors offered resources, healthy aging tips, and caregiver support for local seniors.   • Last week, the Goleta Historic Preservation Commission backed a plan to transform a 19th-century farmhouse at Fairview Gardens into a café, teaching kitchen, and studio (with office space).   • Falcon 9 will launch from Vandenberg Space Force Base today between 7 and 11 a.m. to deploy 25 Starlink satellites into orbit. A backup launch window is set for Monday, and the booster on its 15th flight will land on the Of Course I Still Love You droneship in the Pacific.  Noozhawk

  • UCSB Arts & Lectures presents the Isidore String Quartet with Sterling Elliott on Thursday, May 14 at 7 p.m. at Hahn Hall, where the ensemble will perform works by Haydn, Ligeti & Schubert.   • Three distinguished UCSB professors, oceanographer Alice L. Alldredge, astrophysicist Lars Bildsten, and engineer Henry T. Yang were elected to the American Academy of Arts & Sciences; induction ceremonies will be held in October in Cambridge.  Noozhawk
  • Santa Barbara City College released its first annual Measure P Citizens’-Bond Oversight Committee report detailing how $198M in voter-approved funds are being managed for campus upgrades.   • CALM held its annual Let’s Get Loud event at Presqu’ile Winery, drawing 200 supporters and raising a record $125,000 to fund mental health services for children and families.
