- ➤ The nonprofit Starfish Connection will host its free Stories De Mi Pueblo event on May 15 at 6:30 p.m. at Del Pueblo Cafe, 5134 Hollister Ave in Santa Barbara—community members can share their hometown stories and personal memories at the event. Noozhawk
- ➤ Momentum WORK, Inc. is hosting its third annual Fun in the Sun Walk and Roll for Inclusion Awareness Event at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 3 at Chase Palm Park Carousel Plaza on E. Cabrillo Blvd.—the event will feature a one-mile accessible loop with food and resource booths and music by Chris Benedict and Chuck Jefferson, aiming to raise awareness and support disability inclusion in our community. - ➤ The Foodbank of Santa Barbara County will launch its Un-Gala on June 1—a special event asking supporters to stay home and donate funds to help fill a $1 million gap in food resources. - ➤ Authorities released the name of Michael Fitzpatrick, aged 40, who lost his life in a rollover crash on Highway 154 near the summit of San Marcos Pass when his vintage pickup truck rolled over Saturday at about 10:40 a.m.—he was declared dead at the scene. Noozhawk
- ➤ On Tuesday morning, Firefly Aerospace’s sixth Alpha rocket experienced in-flight troubles more than two minutes after liftoff from Vandenberg Space Force Base when a mishap during first-stage separation affected the second-stage engine nozzle—resulting in a lower than planned orbit while investigators from Lockheed Martin, the Space Force and the FAA begin their review. - ➤ The UCSB Economic Forecast Project announced that the 2025 Santa Barbara County Economic Summit will take place on May 12 at the historic Granada Theatre in downtown Santa Barbara from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. followed by a reception until 7:30 p.m. The summit will feature expert presentations and a panel discussion with speakers including former Federal Reserve Bank president Jim Bullard, UCLA’s Lee Ohanian and University of Rochester’s George Alessandria. - ➤ Santa Barbara’s Mental Wellness Center is leading Mental Health Awareness Month in May by inviting residents and businesses to light buildings in green to raise awareness of mental health issues.
