- ➤ A local retired teacher with the Santa Barbara Restorative Justice Program said he felt reassured after attending the Mental Health Fair at Cottage Hospital on May 3, where over 30 groups offered help to the vulnerable—he said the support eased worries that began in January. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Craig Case, a local security company owner and television host, was sentenced to 26 years and eight months on Tuesday for defrauding a vulnerable Montecito resident of nearly $700,000—he was found guilty on 63 counts including 45 of money laundering. KEYT

- ➤ Henrietta Holsman Fore and Marta Holsman Babson were named as the 2025 Fiesta Parade Grand Marshals for Old Spanish Days—both with deep community ties from growing up in Montecito. - ➤ On May 1, the community gathered at Jodi House Gallery for the 22nd Annual Student Art Show hosted by Santa Barbara Channelkeeper, where 55 artworks were selected from 110 submissions to highlight young artists’ connection to the Santa Barbara Channel. Award winners were Amber Ross for her ceramic piece 'The Ocean’s Jellyfish'—with Victoria Martinez and Naomi Pearl honored for 'Where the Waves Live' and 'The Broken Octopus,' respectively. Noozhawk

- ➤ Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office announced that Senior Deputy District Attorney Austin Ingalls and Investigator Wayne Flick have been honored with the 2025 H. Thomas Guerry Awards—recognizing their courage and exceptional service. They will be celebrated tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. in the County Board of Supervisors Hearing Room. Noozhawk
- ➤ Developers behind the 44-acre Richards Ranch project in Orcutt filed a lawsuit against Santa Barbara County and its Board of Supervisors, claiming county staff repeatedly declared their plans incomplete and delayed the project by not following state law—plans for the project include 400 apartments, 95 townhomes, and mixed commercial spaces near Highway 135 and Union Valley Parkway, and LAFCO will hold a study session on May 8 at 1 p.m. in Santa Maria.
