- ➤ Santa Barbara’s Old Spanish Days Fiesta named City College freshman Jenna Ramirez and Our Lady of Mount Carmel School fourth-grader Penelope (Penny) Hernandez the 2026 Spirit and Junior Spirit of Fiesta. They were chosen last month at a sold-out Lobero Theatre and will lead key events including Fiesta Pequeña and the Historical Parade during the festival scheduled Aug. 5-9. Noozhawk
- ➤ UCSB's Capps Center has received a $500,000 grant from the Henry Luce Foundation for its five-year Indigenous repatriation project — the center will boost research and build new partnerships with local Native communities. Edhat

- ➤ On Saturday, May 9, Westmont College held its graduation ceremony on Thorrington Field for roughly 300 Class of 2026 students. Speakers urged the graduates to live lives of service + celebrate community, marking a 50th reunion for the Class of 1976. Noozhawk
- ➤ On Saturday, MOXI Museum taught local children how to grow sunflowers as part of First5California Statewide Day of Action in Santa Barbara. Staff gave kids colorful pots to decorate, packets of seeds, and simple care instructions to help them watch their blooms grow at home. KEYT
