- ➤ The Santa Barbara County Fire Safe Council and local fire agencies will host a free Wildfire Evacuation and Survival Workshop at Cabrillo High School Little Theater, 4350 Constellation Road in Lompoc on May 31 to help residents learn emergency wildfire procedures—experts will explain where to go, what to pack, and how to evacuate safely. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Sunday night, an electric bicycle rider died after a crash with a black pickup truck in the 1900 block of State Street in Santa Barbara; firefighters and medics arrived at 9:35 p.m.—the truck driver remained at the scene as police investigate. Noozhawk

ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Scientists at UCSB estimated that Southern California has just over 1,220 adult giant sea bass from dives conducted between 2015 and 2022—showing a slow recovery after decades of overfishing. The study used photos from more than 420 citizen scientists and noted that while numbers are growing, the fish population remains far below historical levels. Noozhawk

- ➤ On Tuesday, Santa Barbara County supervisors voted 3-1 to develop a plan to ban new onshore oil and gas drilling and phase out current operations.
