  • Santa Barbara Parks and Recreation has opened applications for the annual Children's Fiesta Parade on Saturday, August 2 on Cabrillo Boulevard as part of the Old Spanish Days Fiesta Celebration (no cost for all children to participate) and families must apply by Sunday, July 6 (ice cream will be provided at the end of the route).  Santa Barbara Independent

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Visit Santa Barbara will host its 2025 Annual General Meeting at the Santa Barbara Historical Museum (136 E. De La Guerra) on May 29 from noon to 1 p.m. The meeting will include networking from 11 a.m. to noon, a keynote discussion on tourism and local heritage, and an optional guided walking tour from 1 to 1:30 p.m.  Noozhawk

CRIME NEWS

  • A 24-year-old man was arrested on Thursday night on attempted murder and related charges after a domestic violence shooting on the 1100 block of Hutash Street where no one was injured; police later caught him at 6:35 p.m. on East Carrillo Street in a high-risk arrest—detectives recovered a loaded handgun with an extended magazine from his waistband.  Noozhawk

  • Linden Square has opened in Carpinteria after years of planning that replaced smaller businesses along Seventh to Eighth Street with a new space for retail, restaurants and fitness. The project is expected to add at least $600,000 a year to local sales tax revenue — some tenants are open while others finish construction.  KEYT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UCSB professor Maryam Majedi is launching the university’s first Embedded Ethics Lab to integrate ethical reflection into computer science courses — the lab embeds modules on privacy, AI, and accessibility in existing classes.
