  • The Montecito Association will host Hands Across Montecito on June 5 from 5 to 7 p.m. at The Friendship Center on Eucalyptus Lane so residents, community stakeholders and local organizations can meet the homeless outreach team, hear panel updates and join a Q&A session—seating is limited and advance RSVP is encouraged.  Noozhawk

  • Downtown Finch & Fork is evolving under Executive Chef John Vasquez who uses simple, fresh local ingredients from the nearby farmers market—he is known for his signature Deviled Eggs and will host a Southern Brunch Pop-Up on Memorial Day tomorrow. His career shift from IT to cooking and focus on local flavors highlight a new chapter in the restaurant's community presence.  Edhat
  • Today, the Old Santa Barbara Mission plaza is being transformed by the 39th I Madonarri Street Painting Festival—artists of all ages create chalk art inspired by local gardens and online images. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Santa Barbara County Fire Department and the county APCD announced a prescribed burn aimed at restoring coastal grassland at the Jack and LauraDangermond Preserve led by The Nature Conservancy. The burn is scheduled for May 27-30—if weather and air quality conditions allow—and will be rescheduled to Fall if conditions are not met.  KEYT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting Thursday, May 29, downtown Santa Barbara will receive a free, all-electric shuttle service operated by Sweep SB — the service will run from noon to 7 p.m. Thursday through Sunday for six months with hop-on/hop-off stops from Stearns Wharf to Sola Street.  Noozhawk

SPORTS NEWS

  • Dos Pueblos pulled away late with seven runs in the sixth inning to secure an 11-1 win over Trinity Classical Academy in the CIF-SS Division 4 quarterfinals on Friday afternoon—showing solid offense and pitching. Dos Pueblos will host Thousand Oaks in the semifinals on Tuesday at 3:15 p.m.—the team aims to carry their strong performance forward.  Santa Barbara Independent
  • Under sunny skies at Pershing Park tennis courts—SB Tennis Patrons hosted their end-of-season celebration today to honor local elementary students from Adams Elementary and Santa Barbara Community Academy who learned tennis fundamentals through the A-OK Program. The event featured a friendly match where the Adams Tigers narrowly defeated the SBCA Alligators and concluded with participants receiving diplomas, new tennis racquets, and a pizza party.  Noozhawk
  • San Marcos High sophomore Austin Downing and Santa Ynez High junior Von Gordon each shot a five-under-par 65 on day one at the Santa Barbara Golf Club—leading the Championship Flight. Four golfers tied for third as the three-day event continues with rounds on Sunday and Monday and players vie for a top purse.  Noozhawk
  • On Friday night, Santa Barbara Soccer Club honored 19 local high school seniors who signed letters of intent to play collegiate soccer this fall. Fourteen boys and five girls will join teams from local colleges and well-known universities — including Amherst, UCLA, and Harvard.  Noozhawk
