  • ASAP Cats will host Basil’s Big Bash on June 13th at 5:30 p.m. at The Carousel House in Santa Barbara to raise funds for feline welfare. The annual gala (with a black cats theme) will feature dinner, dancing, and silent and live auctions that help fund over 15% of the organization’s annual operating costs.  Noozhawk

CRIME NEWS

  • Two teenage boys said they were robbed on the 6800 block of Fortuna Road in Isla Vista on Tuesday evening when masked suspects, one of whom threatened to kill them with a knife, forced them to flee to a Home Depot at Camino Real Marketplace—sheriff’s detectives are investigating the case and the suspects remain at large.  Santa Barbara Independent

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History reopened its Butterflies Alive! exhibit, where visitors see over two dozen tropical butterfly species from Costa Rica and about 1,000 butterflies flying around them — a garden show that gives an up-close look. A gallery also shows butterflies in an early life stage — and the pavilion is ADA accessible while the exhibit was named among USA TODAY's Best Butterfly Gardens.  KEYT
  • Visit Santa Barbara will host its Annual General Meeting later this month to highlight local tourism and celebrate the city’s Spanish Colonial Revival architecture—an impact of the 1925 earthquake. President/CEO Kathy Janega-Dykes and historian Neal Graffy will share insights on travel trends—as the tourism industry generates over $2.24 billion, supports more than 15,000 jobs and adds $82.9 million in tax revenue.  KEYT

  • A review of UCSB’s scientific breakthroughs during the 2024-25 school year shows that researchers observed a black bear on campus, studied air transparency and pregnancy brain changes, and developed advanced quantum computing hardware—projects that also include coastal dune restoration, a donated Raspberry Pi cluster, and research on mosquito mating behavior.   • Today, the Santa Ynez Valley Foundation awarded $85,000 in college scholarships to 50 local students — 30 high school seniors and 20 college sophomores receiving renewed awards. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Wednesday a Superior Court judge granted a preliminary injunction to stop work on an onshore pipeline by Sable Offshore Corp. after the California Coastal Commission said the repairs were done without required permits—Sable had completed hydrotesting and repairs on the pipeline and will restart production this summer pending further approvals.  Noozhawk
  • The Police Accountability Board serves as the main link between students and the campus police by holding monthly meetings and extra town halls when complaints arise. Formed after calls for reform, the board — made up of eight members and two police leaders — requires the police chief to explain responses to complaints and work to improve campus safety.  Daily Nexus

  • Santa Barbara Neighborhood Clinics has finalized plans for a new Westside Clinic near the current facility at 621 W. Mitcheltorena St. A groundbreaking ceremony takes place at 2 p.m. today — the three-story building will expand services to over 8,300 local children, adults and seniors and is expected to be completed in September.  Noozhawk

  • Buena star golfer Brady McHenry won the CIF-SCGA So Cal Boys High School Championship in a playoff over Hill Wang and qualified for the state championship on June 3rd at Poppy Hills GC. Dos Pueblos senior Teddy Vigna also earned his spot after tying for fourth with a 5-under par 69 — both will compete at the upcoming event.  KEYT
