  • Cox Charities in Santa Barbara opened its 2025 Community Grants application period on June 2 and will accept nonprofit applications until June 30—offering grants between $2,500 and $5,000 for projects in conservation, K-12 STEAM education, and affordable housing and food insecurity.  Santa Barbara Independent

CRIME NEWS

  • The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office arrested 53-year-old Angela Elizabeth Phillips, a Ventura County employee from an organic food supplement business on Maple Avenue in Carpinteria, on Tuesday in Ojai for alleged credit card fraud and embezzlement totaling over $750,000 — the investigation began in February.  KSBY

  • Santa Barbara is marking the 100th anniversary of the 1925 earthquake with a full calendar of public events—tours, exhibits and lectures—organized by local nonprofits, government agencies and community partners. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Santa Barbara Unified School District announced that four schools have been awarded a total of $4,512,500 in grants from the California Community Schools Partnership Program to fund community school models over the next five years—each school receiving between roughly $700,000 and $1.4 million.   • The Santa Barbara County Fire Department—working with CAL FIRE, local fire chiefs, and emergency management agencies—declared the 2025 High Fire Season effective June 2 and suspended all residential burn permits while increasing resources for vegetation fires.   • A Santa Barbara Superior Court judge issued a temporary restraining order on Tuesday to stop the State Fire Marshal and Sable Offshore Corp from restarting oil pipelines through Santa Barbara County after environmental groups requested a pause. The judge will hold a follow-up hearing on July 18 to decide if a longer order is needed—state officials and the company have presented opposing viewpoints.  Noozhawk
