  • Win~Dow Burgers opened yesterday at the corner of Chapala and Ortega streets in downtown Santa Barbara, offering smashburgers starting at $4.35 along with fries, salads and desserts. Owner Jeff Goodman said he aims to deliver an affordable, quick dining experience by revamping the former Romanti-Ezer space—his latest venture in town—into a vibrant food destination.  Noozhawk
  • Women’s Economic Ventures held an event at The HUB in Santa Barbara where clients, local leaders, donors and partners gathered to mark 2024 achievements and unveil its Impact Report — which showed that over 1,400 businesses started or grew, with $167 million in sales and 4,000 jobs supported.  Noozhawk

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Music Academy of the West will use a $20 million gift from philanthropist Cheryl Goldberg honoring her late husband Michael Goldberg to open a new Music Education Center at 901 State Street in downtown Santa Barbara. The center will offer rehearsal and performance spaces — a hub for music education — as construction and programming details are set to be announced in the coming months.  Edhat

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Santa Barbara Unified School District announced four schools received a combined $4,512,500 in grants from the California Community Schools Partnership Program to support expanded student services, active family engagement, and enriched learning over the next five years.   • After a tough semester in Arizona, Daniela Aguirre returned to Santa Barbara City College, where supportive faculty + inspiring teacher Ruth Morales helped her choose economics over her initial plans; she later founded the Mujeres Makers Market and joined Assemblymember Steve Bennett’s team with Supervisor Laura Capps to serve her community. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On May 29th, 2025, twenty-four volunteers joined representatives from Santa Barbara Channelkeeper, Island Packers, Santa Barbara Adventure Company, and the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation to clear about 1,400 pounds of trash and discarded fishing gear from Yellowbanks on Santa Cruz Island and Driftwood Cove on Anacapa Island. They used kayaks and a skiff to ferry the debris for proper disposal — a key cleanup step that continues the sixth annual effort to protect our coastal waters — demonstrating strong local teamwork.  Edhat
  • Santa Barbara’s Clean Community Division began a pilot program with Dune Coffee Roasters on June 4 that gives coffee drinkers a total discount of $1 when they use a reusable or café cup and offers a free reusable clay cup from GaeaStar. The program displays signs to explain how choosing reusables can reduce waste — a move designed to lower the number of disposable cups ending up in landfills.  Noozhawk

  • A ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 4 celebrated the completion of Santa Barbara’s Vision Zero State Street Undercrossing Project; the project makes sidewalks wider (from 8 feet to 15 feet), adds safe bike lanes, and improves lighting and railings along State Street between Yanonali and Gutierrez streets.  Noozhawk
  • Today, the City of Santa Barbara Fire Department begins its move to the Regional Fire Communications Center—joining other local fire services to boost emergency response and faster dispatch of resources; the change will finish within the next week with no service interruption.  Edhat
