The Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors approved over $50,000 in grants for the 2025-26 Arts Making Impact program that funds local arts projects.

The awards—given to 12 nonprofits—support free art classes, storytelling workshops, and dance programs across the county with projects set to begin later this year.

The downtown Boys & Girls Club will host a carnival starting July 31 on its field at Canon Perdido Street as part of Old Spanish Days—this free event offers ticket rides, dance, and games for families looking to enjoy a safe, local celebration.

The carnival is one element in a week of festivities that also sees changes to other traditional events.

Green will present The Great Santa Barbara Earthquake — The Survivors Speak at the Santa Barbara County Genealogical Society’s free meeting on Saturday, June 21 from 9:30 a.m. to noon at First Presbyterian Church on E. Constance Avenue in Santa Barbara. The event will feature refreshments, a brief business meeting, and a virtual option via Zoom with advance registration.

The Santa Barbara County Water Agency announced that Dos Pueblos High School won top prizes in the 26th Annual WaterWise High School Video Contest, earning over $1,000 and extra student awards from sponsors.

The school stood out among 29 entries from three schools—showing strong results with both its English and Spanish videos.

Drake announced that Executive Vice Chancellor David Marshall will become Interim Chancellor of UC Santa Barbara on July 15 and will lead the campus until a new chancellor is chosen. Chancellor Henry T. Yang will end his term on July 14 after 31 years of service — Marshall, a Distinguished Professor since 2014, has led major campus initiatives.

Santa Barbara City College began construction on its Physical Education Replacement Building project on Monday, June 16, 2025—starting with soft demolition, abatement, and general mobilization on campus.

Fencing will be set up around the site and the project is funded by the Measure P Bond Extension approved by local voters with a 66% majority—ensuring a modern facility for student use.

Santa Barbara held a virtual meeting on June 16 to collect public input on its new Westside and Lower West Neighborhoods Transportation Management Plan.

The city will hold an in-person meeting on June 18 at La Cumbre Junior High School — staff will use feedback to boost traffic flow, bike paths, and pedestrian safety.

The Santa Barbara Foresters won by a score of 18 to 1 on Sunday at Eddie Mathews Field by scoring quickly and taking a strong lead—Frank Camarillo pitched four scoreless innings and the team will face the Orange County Riptide on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
