- ➤ The Santa Barbara Zoo will host its Zoofari Ball Out of This World fundraiser on Saturday, August 23 with 200 tickets sold at $100 each to support animal care, wildlife conservation and education. - ➤ Brock Alexander Hoffman appeared in court on Tuesday to face charges for a fatal hit-and-run on Cliff Drive where Vons manager Juan Lopez was killed on June 29 — Traffic Officer Edward Kasper testified that Hoffman did not call 9-1-1 after striking Lopez with his 1996 Toyota Landcruiser and that he turned himself in on July 4, later securing a $50,000 bail. - ➤ A federal judge ordered Santa Barbara investment advisor Andrew Nash to pay $21.4 million—$15.3 million in misappropriated funds plus $6.1 million in penalties—and permanently bar him from finance after he used client money to buy a Hope Ranch home and sports memorabilia. - ➤ The Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation has launched an exhibit at Casa de la Guerra that shows true and myth stories of Mexican California starting June 26 and running through Aug. 31. Admission costs five dollars for adults, four dollars for seniors, and is free for SBTHP members, eligible cardholders, and children 16 and under at El Presidio de Santa Bárbara State Historic Park. - ➤ UC Santa Barbara professor Kip Fulbeck revisits his 25-year Hapa Project by pairing original portraits with updated photos and handwritten identity statements at the Museum of Us in San Diego. - ➤ Students at Santa Barbara High School finished the Translation and Interpretation Pathway and earned professional certificates that let them start careers in translating and interpreting languages.
