  • Coco is a 2-year-old female tan Siberian Husky mix weighing about 53 pounds and is now available for adoption at the Lompoc Animal Center—her adoption fee covers spay, microchipping, vaccinations, flea treatment, and a health exam. The friendly staff is ready to help anyone eager to give this playful and affectionate dog a new home.  Edhat
  • Bao is a one-month-old male domestic medium hair cat at Santa Maria Campus offered for adoption by SB Humane—he loves to play with his siblings but can be a bit nervous with new people until he feels safe. Adoption centers are open daily from 12 to 4:30 p.m. except on Wednesdays.  Edhat

CRIME NEWS

  • On June 27 at 7:10 p.m., Santa Barbara Police arrested 22-year-old Jose DeJesus Lopez after his GMC truck damaged a Harbor kiosk—he was also linked to an assault that injured a man—and further charges will be filed after the investigation.  Edhat
  • A 54-year-old Santa Maria man died Saturday night in custody at Northern Branch Jail during a routine welfare check after being booked on June 26 on charges including felonious methamphetamine possession—he was held on $20,000 bail—as deputies' life-saving efforts with Narcan and a defibrillator failed to revive him, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office.  KEYT

  • Marian Regional Medical Center hosted the graduation of nine resident physicians from its Family Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology programs at Presqu’ile Winery in Santa Maria last week — faculty, staff, and hundreds of guests attended the ceremony — and several graduates plan to remain to serve the local community.  Edhat

  • The Dos Pueblos LL 12U All-Stars won a 15-0 rout of Fillmore LL in the District 63 Tournament on Saturday at Goleta Valley South LL (Max Nelson pitched three no-hit innings while Nick Brakka hit a grand slam to spark a nine-run third inning). The team will face either Santa Paula LL or Foothill LL today at 5 p.m. at GVSLL.  Noozhawk
  • The Santa Barbara Foresters beat the San Luis Obispo Blues 5-4 on Sunday at Eddie Mathews Field—after Terrence Kiel’s bases-clearing double tied the game and Addison Klepsch’s hit put them ahead—while Steele Eaves struck out two in the ninth to secure the win. Zack James pitched six shutout innings with five strikeouts to help keep the Blues scoreless until later in the game.  Noozhawk
