ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fuel tanker overturned on northbound Highway 101 in Carpinteria shortly before 7:00 a.m.—blocking two lanes and causing detours as fire crews and hazardous materials teams worked to clean up the crash and check for gas leaks while no injuries were reported.  KEYT
  • A mountain biker on a guided tour in Santa Ynez Valley fell at 9:43 a.m. today and sustained a head injury—firefighter paramedics used a UTV to reach him before hoisting him by helicopter to SB Cottage Hospital in critical condition.  KEYT

  • Christina Welch turned a recipe inspired by German exchange students into a cottage bakery called Dinkelbrot Delight in Carpinteria. Her bakery now sells handcrafted breads, rolls and pretzels made with ancient grains—drawing customers from local shops and beyond.  Edhat
  • Caruso’s at Rosewood Miramar retained its Michelin star for a third year by launching Sapore di Stelle on June 20, an exclusive beachside dinner limited to one seating each evening.   • California raised its cannabis excise tax from 15% to 19% on July 1 after lawmakers passed the state budget without a freeze, sparking concerns among industry operators—who warn that the hike might drive customers to the illegal market. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Santa Barbara Grand Jury report said that women in county jails got fewer class and work crew opportunities because there are not enough inmates and female custody officers to meet staffing needs—male inmates receive more training and job chances, such as in solar panel installation classes.   • Former local high school water polo stars Ryann Neushul and Ava Stryker have been named to the 15-player USA Women’s National Water Polo Team roster for the World Aquatics World Championships in Singapore from July 10 to 23.
