- ➤ Fireworks likely sparked a brush fire near Aliso School on July 5 — crews from Carpinteria-Summerland Fire, Montecito Fire, Ventura County Fire and the U.S. Forest Service quickly contained the 10×10-foot blaze by 8:50 p.m. with no injuries or damage reported. Edhat

- ➤ Students in Santa Barbara High School’s Translation & Interpretation Pathway earned certificates that qualify them for jobs in translation and interpreting — the program now includes a 40-hour Community Interpreter course and partnerships with local experts for real-world practice. Noozhawk

- ➤ NASA’s new SPHEREx telescope launched on March 11 from Vandenberg Space Force Base via a Falcon 9 rocket and began regular science operations on May 1, collecting about 3,600 images per day + early images include the Vela Molecular Ridge. The telescope will publish its processed images in public archives weekly + enabling researchers to study 102 wavelengths of infrared light for clues about organic molecules and water in the Milky Way. - ➤ Rep. Carbajal criticized the GOP reconciliation bill that passed Congress for cutting Medicaid and SNAP and warned it will hurt families in his district. He said the bill now goes to the President’s desk and gives tax breaks to billionaires—while taking away needed help from kids, seniors and veterans—putting local communities at risk. Edhat
- ➤ The U.S. Postal Service will host free job fairs in Santa Maria on July 18 at 201 E Battles Road from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.—and in Lompoc on July 19 at 801 W Ocean Ave—to fill maintenance and logistics positions.
