ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Campers were evacuated from six cabins along El Capitan Creek on Monday when fire crews battled a quarter-acre vegetation fire north of Highway 101 and El Capitan State Beach — responders also worked to secure downed power lines as additional cabins were at risk.  KEYT

  • Seoulmate Kitchen, a new Korean fusion restaurant and café, soft-launched at Santa Barbara Public Market on July 11 and will host its three-day grand opening at 38 W Victoria St starting July 18—its menu features Korean-inspired dishes and artisanal café offerings.  Edhat

  • The SBCC Theatre Group presents Young Frankenstein — a campy musical delight — at its Garvin stage through July 26.   • The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office is asking for help finding 85-year-old Sonia Lang Crestfield, a white woman with gray hair—wearing a black sweater, dark blue jeans, black tennis shoes, white gloves and carrying a blue walker who was last seen at Friendship Manor in Isla Vista on July 11 at 11:30 a.m.  KEYT
  • Caltrans crews are working overnight on US 101, State Route 135 and State Route 217 for bridge deck maintenance and safety projects in Santa Barbara county—workers in Goleta, Gaviota, Orcutt and Santa Maria will continue repairs for three months. A driver safety project will restripe off-ramps and install wrong-way indicators until July 18—travelers should expect ramp closures during weeknights.  KSBY

  • Dignity Health Marian Medical Center has acquired a second da Vinci Xi surgical robot—thanks to a $500,000 donation—to expand its minimally invasive surgery program and offer patients on the Central Coast procedures with smaller incisions for less pain and faster recovery.  Noozhawk

  • Santa Barbara’s Ford Harman is a 19-year-old beach volleyball player who made his AVP debut as an 18-year-old and is the only collegiate competitor in the main draw while joining the 2025 Beach Collegiate/U26 national team training block in Hermosa Beach—he transferred from Long Beach State after a national championship season and aims for an Olympic future.  Santa Barbara Independent
  • The Goleta Valley Girls Softball Association 8U Thunder All-Stars won the Lindsay Rose Memorial Tournament this weekend in Goleta, finishing 4-0 with a 2-1 win over Santa Maria while their pitching staff struck out 11 batters in four innings while allowing one hit & they will now compete in the Cal State games in San Diego later this week &.  Noozhawk
  • UCSB baseball star Tyler Bremner was drafted second overall by the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday — making him the highest drafted Gaucho in program history — and he is the first Angel pick from UCSB since Jack Dashwood in 2019.  Santa Barbara Independent
