Habit Burger and Grill started a new ad campaign that shows its #1 rank in a USA TODAY poll and calls out In-N-Out for dropping to 4th with a billboard near LAX's drive-thru.

The campaign builds on the restaurant’s history dating back to its opening in Santa Barbara in 1969—its first store—and aims to boost its local standing.

On Aug. 21, law enforcement agencies including the CHP and several county teams arrested three armed felony suspects in Santa Barbara—recovering several loaded semi-automatic handguns with extended magazines and an assault rifle after stopping two men at a bus station and searching an Isla Vista apartment.

The California DOJ reprimanded Santa Barbara Sheriff Bill Brown for failing to fully report the transfer of undocumented inmates to ICE under conflicting state laws, showing 37 transfers between 2000 and 2024 that were misreported.

Brown agreed to submit amended documents within 30 days after receiving a letter from the state Attorney General's office on August 4th—though the legal definition of 'transfer' remains unresolved.

People Assisting the Homeless will close its shelter at 816 Cacique Street on December 31 after a decade of operation on the city’s industrial Eastside.

City Hall is negotiating to purchase the building, which carries a $3.2 million debt and a covenant requiring its use for shelter services until 2049 — officials have not yet disclosed further details.
