- ➤ Santa Barbara Rescue Mission is hosting its 24th annual Australian-themed Bayou Down Under fundraiser at Sandpiper Golf Club on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 2 p.m., with dinner on the Grand Lawn by Pure Joy Catering and online silent auction bidding. The event will honor Janet Rowse —the Léni Fé Bland Award— for her work in preventing youth addiction and will raise funds to support a 12-month residential drug and alcohol treatment program and emergency services for homeless guests. - ➤ Three men arrested over a fatal State Street stabbing during Fiesta weekend were re-arraigned in Santa Barbara Superior Court on September 8 after new video evidence led the District Attorney to drop murder charges—each defendant entered a plea of not guilty as they now face amended charges. - ➤ Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation announced a new exhibit at Casa de la Guerra titled 'Santa Barbara 1925 to 2025: A Portrait in Maps' that is part of (EQ25) the commemoration of the 1925 earthquake. - ➤ Viva el Arte de Santa Bárbara will present four free community performances by Grupo Bella in September. - ➤ The City of Santa Barbara’s Department of Sustainability and Resilience and MarBorg Industries will host a free hazardous household waste collection event on Saturday, September 13, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Lote 2-C—136 Loma Alta Dr.—at City College so residents can safely dispose of dangerous items like batteries and used oil filters. - ➤ Kate Ford was unanimously appointed to the Planning Commission by county supervisors Tuesday and will begin her term on Sept. 24, replacing Commissioner Bridley who stepped down over state housing law issues. Ford, a Santa Barbara native with 15 years of teaching and 20 years of school leadership, currently serves as Vice Chair of the City Harbor Commission — adding local expertise to county planning. - ➤ The Santa Barbara Mission will begin building a new ADA ramp on September 29th after a short delay caused by fundraising, and the design will blend with its historic look. The six-month project will upgrade the top entrance and lower steps (designed to match the existing style) while the church remains open using a side door (for visitor access). KEYT
