  • SpaceX will launch 24 Starlink satellites from Vandenberg Space Force Base Saturday morning from 8:41 a.m. until 12:42 p.m. Vandenberg analysis shows no sonic boom is expected for local residents—while the Falcon 9 first stage will land on a droneship in the Pacific Ocean.  Edhat

  • Singer-songwriter Conner Cherland has released his new album It’s So Good To See You just two years after his first full-length record—its eight tracks reveal a bold shift in sound and confidence. The project features songs like I Made a Friend in LA and includes creative touches such as acoustic piano and an album cover inspired by a visit to the Bug Fair.  Edhat
  • Seventeen-year-old Santa Barbara High School senior Hannah Hedrick self-published a children’s book called 'Side By Side – Stronger We Stand' that draws on her experience during Montecito’s 2018 mudslides and debris flow following the Thomas Fire.   • Coastal Cleanup Day will take place in Santa Barbara County Saturday, September 20 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at over 30 sites — including new spots like Carpinteria Salt Marsh and Isla Vista Streets — as organizers hope to beat last year’s cleanup record.  Edhat

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • California lawmakers passed a bill on Thursday that bans most law enforcement officers from wearing face coverings while on duty — the law excludes undercover agents and medical masks. Governor Newsom has about a month to decide whether to sign the measure into law.  KSBY
  • Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District will install about 150 air quality sensors at schools, government buildings and nonprofits to measure PM2.5 from smoke, dust and soot. The program—approved in June and funded by a grant—will add to the roughly 50 PurpleAir sensors already in place and is available to interested partners through an online form.  Edhat
  • Goleta is highlighting Santa Barbara County’s new emergency mapping tool powered by Genasys—launched after the Gifford Fire in August—to improve agency coordination and offer residents a public emergency zones map. Community members can search their addresses and use the PROTECT app for push notifications while officials urge registration with ReadySBC for timely alerts.  Noozhawk

  • Cottage Health urged the Santa Barbara community to learn the signs of sepsis during Sepsis Awareness Month after Sepsis Awareness Day on Sept 13. The hospital said that recognizing symptoms (such as confusion, extreme shivering, and difficulty breathing) and seeking prompt care may save lives.  Noozhawk

  • On Friday night, Cate girls volleyball beat Bishop Diego in a five-set match at the Brick House; the Rams won the first two sets, lost the next two, and clinched the final set 15—13. The Tri-Valley League game also saw Bishop's Sophie Otte record 28 kills.  Noozhawk
  • Santa Barbara High football lost 24-14 to undefeated Moorpark on Friday as the Dons fell to 2-2 while Moorpark improved to 4-0 on their non-league schedule — Santa Barbara will host San Marcos for the Big Game next Friday at 7 p.m.  Noozhawk
  • Accusations that assistant coaches and players held an illegal Sunday practice led to suspensions, bans, and firings as head coach John De Marco filed a lawsuit against the Central Coast Youth Football League — he argues that the punishments violated league rules and were unfair. The league said the practice was a chance for fathers and sons to spend time together after baseball practice, and it later revised some sanctions while extending its probation through 2026 — more legal actions may follow.  Noozhawk
  • Today, UCSB Women’s Volleyball won 3-1 over Northern Colorado at their home venue—improving their season record to 6-2. The team will host Pepperdine on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 6:00 p.m.—a match following a weekend of strong play by players like Travis and Rex.  Noozhawk
  • UCSB men’s water polo beat ranked Brown 16-8 on Saturday at LMU’s Burns Aquatic Center—then lost 16-12 to LMU in their second match as hat-tricks by McKenzie and Lassahn powered the win. The team will play in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Invitational hosted by UCLA next weekend.  Noozhawk
  • Westmont women's volleyball lost two matches on Saturday at the Hampton Inn Nighthawks Classic — they fell 3-0 to Colorado School of Mines and 3-1 to Westminster. The team, now 4-3, will host Concordia in PacWest play on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.  Noozhawk
