- ➤ Hosted by the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians, the 2025 Chumash Charity Golf Classic teed off on Tuesday at Alisal Ranch Golf Course in Solvang and will continue through Sept. 25 to raise funds for Angels Foster Care, CALM, and the Mental Wellness Center. Now in its 20th year and having raised over $2 million since 2005 — the tournament plays a key role in supporting local non-profits. KSBY

- ➤ The Santa Barbara Chamber Players will present an evening of orchestral music featuring local high school musicians+ conducted by Daniel Gee at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25 at First United Methodist Church. Tickets range from free for youth to $20 for general admission. Noozhawk
- ➤ UCSB Arts and Lectures will present jazz singer Samara Joy at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2 at The Granada Theatre in Santa Barbara. - ➤ The Dos Pueblos High School team Octobots Robotics 9084 has been selected to compete at Chezy Champs in San Jose from September 26 to 28; the volunteer team of about 50 students will test its award-winning abilities against 46 top high school teams from the West Coast—demonstrating local talent in STEM education. - ➤ The Santa Barbara City Council voted unanimously to deny UNITE HERE Local 11's appeal against the Planning Commission’s approval of a Hilton expansion project at 633 East Cabrillo Blvd—city staff said old property agreements let the hotel expand. Union supporters in red and their attorney said they will explore other options while the Mayor said he hopes to secure affordable accommodations in future projects. KEYT
- ➤ The City of Goleta offers free emergency preparedness classes this fall — residents can enroll in two-hour Community Disaster Education workshops on Oct. 3, Oct. 16, Nov. 3, and Nov. 18 and in 21-hour Community Emergency Response Team training on Oct. 18, Nov. 1, and Nov. 15 at the Goleta Community Center. - ➤ Southern California Edison will host a community meeting on Thursday at the Santa Barbara County Education Office auditorium at 4400 Cathedral Oaks Road to explain Public Safety Power Shutoffs and wildfire safety measures. The event includes a Resource Fair from 5:15 to 6 p.m.—followed by a meeting from 6 to 7:30 p.m. with Spanish interpretation available. KSBY
- ➤ Assembly member Gregg Hart passed a bill that required Sable Oil to obtain a coastal permit and full review by the California Coastal Commission for its pipeline near Refugio State Beach—this measure was added in the final hours of the legislative session following a costly pipeline failure in 2014. - ➤ Santa Barbara County health centers must change who they treat as new federal rules stop them from serving patients with unsatisfactory immigration status starting January 1—about 7,500 patients will be reassigned to new providers.
