- ➤ A free Welcome Back Concert will be held in Anisq’Oyo Park on Sept. 27 from 1–4 p.m. as Isla Vista Recreation and Park District teams up with UCSB Community Housing Services and Isla Vista Community Services District to welcome students with live music, a vendor market, lawn games and free ice cream sandwiches courtesy of IV Drip—organizers say it marks the start of Fall Quarter. - ➤ Santa Barbara County APCD has updated its Old Car Buyback program to accept vehicles of model year 2002 or older and will pay $2,200 per eligible car—up from $1,000. The program aims to reduce smog by permanently removing older vehicles that meet registration and smog certification requirements. Edhat
- ➤ Governor Gavin Newsom signed two bills into law that require school staff to obtain a judge's warrant before letting immigration agents into private areas and to notify families when ICE is on campus; local enforcement rules will be updated by March 1, 2026. - ➤ The city of Santa Barbara collected $4 million in transient occupancy taxes in August 2025 as part of an $8.2 million year-to-date total from hotels and short-term rentals.
