- ➤ Doug Riedy was named a 2025 Champion of the Valley by the Santa Ynez Valley Foundation for his tireless work selling raffle tickets and grilling at local fundraisers — a role spanning over 25 years. He will be honored at Rancho Carmina at 4 p.m. on Oct. 12. Noozhawk
- ➤ The city of Santa Barbara will join the annual Senior Expo at the Earl Warren Showgrounds (3400 Calle Real) on Oct.15 from 9 a.m. to noon, where Family Services Agency runs a fair with health screenings, music, food, and activities. - ➤ SpaceX launched its Falcon 9 rocket Friday morning from Vandenberg Space Force Base, marking the first October launch after a record-setting September. - ➤ Santa Barbara’s popular Empty Bowls event will return on Oct. 11th at SBCC’s Great Meadow on the West Campus as a benefit for the Children’s Creative Project—which for 50 years has supported art education for more than 65,000 students each year. - ➤ Dos Pueblos High School’s Mock Trial team defended its title at the Empire Mock Trial Philadelphia Constitutional Classic championship as its prosecution team defeated Central Carolina Homeschoolers Veritas in a hard-fought final on Monday—this victory marked the team’s fourth Empire title.
