- ➤ A report on homelessness shows that local churches want to help by working with government and nonprofits to support people without homes in Santa Barbara. - ➤ Undersheriff Craig Bonner and Chief Custody Deputy Vinny Wasilewski won top honors at the Navy League’s 7th Annual Chili Cookoff on October 9th at the Santa Barbara Carriage Museum—their winning entry 'Last Stand Chili' blended Wagyu beef chili with smoked beef brisket and also earned Best Chili Name as a nod to their upcoming retirements. - ➤ The Santa Barbara Maritime Museum will host social-ecological researcher Jennifer Selgrath for her talk on ocean access and equity at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, with a reception for museum members from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m. The event will focus on how Marine Protected Areas affect coastal benefits for underserved communities. - ➤ The Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors approved $4 million to add 150 new charging stations for county vehicles and public use as part of its Zero-Emission Vehicle Action Plan. The deal with PowerFlex Systems raises the contract total to $5 million and the stations will be installed at sites (including the Regional Fire Communications Center) over the next three years. - ➤ Thousands of protesters gathered in Santa Barbara County on Saturday at Alameda Park, Lompoc and Santa Ynez for the No Kings rally to stand against autocracy — they aimed to support democracy and urged a vote Yes on Prop 50.
