  • Santa Barbara Humane welcomed Maya, an 8-year-old husky, back on Your Morning News with Maya after she was surrendered when her owner moved and could not take her along — she now greets visitors at the campus. The nonprofit, named Best Place to Adopt a Pet for the fourth year, will benefit from local events — Pilates classes on November 7th and a car show on November 16th with 50% off adoptions — that aim to boost pet adoptions.  KEYT

  • Santa Barbara’s State Street saw its retail vacancy rate rise to a two-year high in Q3 2025, with only 11 new leases adding 17,427 square feet, Radius Commercial Real Estate said.   • Representatives from over 70 colleges—including Gauchos, Bruins, and out-of-state schools—attended SBCC’s annual Transfer Fair at its West Campus Great Meadow on Wednesday to help students plan for four-year transfers.   • Engineers Without Borders built and installed a solar-powered table in front of the Chemistry Building at UCSB—this project took two years of student-led planning and hands-on fabrication with donated panels and campus mentorship, and it now offers charging outlets and energy storage for students.   • State Fire Marshal Daniel Berlant sent a letter on October 22 stating that Sable Offshore did not repair its corroded pipeline as required, halting its production restart application.   • Santa Barbara Humane urges pet owners to plan ahead this Halloween to keep their animals safe—reminding families to secure candy, choose comfortable costumes, and create quiet spaces during trick-or-treating.   • On October 28th, Sutter Health entered into an agreement to acquire Hayashida Physical Therapy, a trusted provider in Santa Barbara County.
