  • For nearly seven years, the Santa Barbara Agriculture and Farm Education Foundation delivered chemical-free produce from Sweet Wheel Farms to food-insecure residents across the county each week. The program expanded from one to two deliveries to meet growing need (supporting sustainable farming without herbicides, pesticides or chemical fertilizers).  Santa Barbara Independent

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Santa Barbara Rock Gym will permanently close on November 15 due to rising operational costs and a new competing gym — the facility at 322 State Street, which opened in 2012, has updated its operating hours until closing. The gym will be open for members from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and for the public from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on weekdays and from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on weekends as it winds down its operations.  Edhat

CULTURE NEWS

  • Jack Johnson will perform his Music and Film Classic at the Arlington on November 6, where his remastered 4K surf films will be shown. Tickets are given out through Seated’s lottery system to block scalpers and bots—this method mirrors the fair ticket approach used in a recent McCartney event—ensuring true fans secure seats.  Santa Barbara Independent
  • Candlelight® will light up the Music Academy of the West on Dec 18th at 8:15 p.m. with thousands of candles and a local string quartet playing classic Christmas carols — an event that also offers a gift card option for sharing the live experience nationwide.  Santa Barbara Independent

  • The San Marcos High School Theater Department will present CLICK!   • A 3.2-magnitude earthquake struck near Santa Barbara Island 5 kilometers south-southwest at 1:04 a.m. on November 2 — it was recorded by the U.S. Geological Survey from a depth of 8.3 kilometers.  Edhat

  • The Santa Barbara County Flood Control District will host a public open house on November 5 from 5:30 p.m. — 8:30 p.m. at the Louise Lowry Davis Center to present the new BeachSMART project that studies watershed sediment management for stronger, climate resilient beaches, with interactive displays, expert dialogue, and food provided.  Santa Barbara Independent

  • Several holiday events are planned in Buellton and the Santa Ynez Valley areas. The Buellton Fall Festival from Nov 7 to 9 will offer carnival rides, games, live music, and food vendors—Buellton Winter Fest on Dec 7 will feature Breakfast with Santa and a Holiday Village—and the Botanic Garden Holiday Lights Festival together with Cowboy Christmas will bring seasonal fun with light displays, pony rides, and visits with Santa on select dates.  Noozhawk

  • Last week, Dos Pueblos cross country’s Owen Abbott finished a three-mile race in 15:10 to win an individual title that helped his team get first place.   • Santa Barbara sailor Colin Campbell will join the Globe 40 offshore race covering 6,000 miles from Réunion Island to Sydney as he co-skips with Canadian skipper Melodie Schaffer—an experienced racer and 2023 Canadian Rolex Woman Sailor of the Year. Campbell is completing medical tests, safety exams and raising funds while preparing to meet tight travel deadlines.  Edhat
