- ➤ A Veterans Day ceremony will be held at Santa Barbara Cemetery, 901 Channel Drive, on Nov 11 at 11 a.m. Barry De Vorzon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1649 and the Pierre Claeyssens Veterans Foundation will host bands, the UCSB Color Guard, and a jet flyover by The Condor Squadron — with the event ending with the first live performance of Barry De Vorzon's new song, The Veteran — to honor local military service. - ➤ Residents are invited to volunteer at Ellwood Mesa (in Goleta) to help restore the Monarch butterfly winter habitat, with work scheduled for Nov. 15 and Dec. 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Volunteers will plant native food sources and trees (actions that will reduce wildfire risk and support local wildlife). - ➤ An unknown assailant chopped down an oak tree, several eucalyptus trees and native shrubs at Lake Los Carneros in Goleta, and the city posted signs warning that damaging vegetation is illegal—Kelly Hoover said the city will manage regrowth to preserve the area for future generations. - ➤ The Santa Barbara Symphony Youth Ensembles will hold two free concerts this November — one on Nov. 22 at 3 p.m. in Hahn Hall featuring the Camerata Ensemble and Philharmonia Orchestra under Marisa McLeod, and a second on Nov. 23 at 4 p.m. at Lobero Theatre with a galaxy-themed program led by Daniel Gee and the Youth Symphony. - ➤ PCPA presents Disney’s Frozen — The Broadway Musical on stage; the show began yesterday at the Marian Theatre and will run until Dec. 21 — a second run is scheduled at Solvang Festival Theater from July 5 to Aug. 2. Noozhawk
- ➤ Greenpeace Co-Founder Rex Weyler will accept the inaugural Wild and Free Spirit Award on Saturday, November 15 at 5:45 p.m. at Camino Real Cinemas in Goleta for the documentary How to Change the World+ he will lead a Q&A session after the screening while the festival features 30 films and additional awards across its three-day schedule. - ➤ Local high school seniors must apply by November 15 for 2026—27 art and honors scholarships offered by the Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara, with honors awards for academic achievers in South County and art awards for fine arts students in Southern Santa Barbara County and at Santa Ynez Valley Union High School. - ➤ The 76th A.S. Senate approved $20,000 in funding to partially reinstate UCSB Library’s Late Night Study hours from October, extending service from 1 to 3 a.m. Sunday to Thursday — reopening the library at 7 a.m. daily. - ➤ UC Santa Barbara professor Daniel Blumenthal’s lab was chosen as one of four teams by the National Science Foundation to join its National Quantum Virtual Laboratory project. - ➤ Starr King Parent-Child Workshop will host its Winter Holiday Market & Silent Auction at 1525 1/2 Santa Barbara St. on Nov 16 from 3-7 p.m. The event will offer fun family activities like bounce houses, face painting, snow play, crafts, local food, and a silent auction to support the preschool (entry is free with both free and paid kids’ activities available) (pre-registration online gives one complimentary child ticket). - ➤ State officials have revamped a decades-old plan to create public access to Hollister Ranch beaches — completing an environmental review and seeking public input on access options. The public is invited to join in-person workshops on November 12 at Oak Valley Elementary in Buellton and November 13 at the Goleta Valley Community Center or a virtual session on November 17 via Zoom. - ➤ The Santa Barbara County Planning Commission approved the Environmental Justice Element—a guide meant to help low-income communities facing pollution problems.
