  • Summer Solstice Celebration announced the 2026 Solstice Parade theme as 'WAVE' during the First Thursday event at Downtown Santa Barbara Public Library—opening a call for artists to submit designs for the poster contest early next year. The event also featured a preview of the BIGGEST Little Elephant Parade currently on display at Faulkner Gallery through November.  Edhat
  • Marcus is a 2-year-old male black German Shepherd weighing about 90 pounds and is available for adoption at the Lompoc Animal Center at 1501 West Central. He is gentle, enjoys car rides and walks, though he needs some leash training, and his adoption fee covers neutering, microchipping, vaccinations, flea treatment — and a health exam.  Edhat

CULTURE NEWS

  • SBCC’s Theatre Group will hold auditions for its spring production of 'A Small Family Business' by Alan Ayckbourn on Dec. 2 at 5:30 p.m. at the Jurkowitz Theatre—callbacks are scheduled for Dec. 9, rehearsals begin on Jan. 12, and performances run from March 4 to 21 at the Garvin Theatre.  Noozhawk
  • A new local series blending guided meditation and live classical music will debut at 2 p.m. Dec. 5 in Weinman Hall at Music Academy of the West—created by pianist Antonio Artese and mindfulness guide Jessica Kolbe. The one-hour event will offer solo piano pieces with limited seating available at $25 per ticket—ensuring an intimate atmosphere.  Noozhawk

EDUCATION NEWS

  • California awarded MOXI museum $1 million to redesign its rooftop water exhibit into a new interactive display about the Santa Barbara watershed. The exhibit—featuring hands-on water experiments—will open in 2027 at 125 State St.  Noozhawk
  • At the Humanist Society of Santa Barbara, philosopher Christopher DiCarlo explained that new artificial intelligence moves fast and could soon act like a god—he urged that strict rules be set to keep it safe. He described the difference between weak AI that handles simple tasks and strong AI that could change our world if left unchecked.  Edhat
  • On October 24, United Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Barbara County held its first annual Career Fair Expo at the Goleta Club — Sal Rodriguez Unit, where over 50 teens met 35 career representatives from sectors like healthcare, finance, aviation, entertainment, and public service. The expo also turned into a countywide Teen Night Celebration with games, sports, and a live DJ set to boost community spirit.  Edhat

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • After heavy rain Saturday night, downtown Santa Barbara experienced flooding and falling trees which caused road closures and led to a rescue of a woman from her car. The National Weather Service said gusty winds and scattered showers will continue — more rain is expected Monday and Thursday.  Santa Barbara Independent
  • Another round of moderate rain will hit the Central Coast starting today, bringing 1-2 inches of rainfall (up to 3 inches on the Santa Ynez Mountains) into Tuesday. County officials warned that the ongoing rain may cause minor flooding, rockslides, and falling trees (with a 20% chance of thunderstorms) in affected areas.  Noozhawk

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • SpaceX launched the Sentinel-6B satellite Sunday night from Vandenberg Space Force Base; the project is a joint effort by NASA and the European Space Agency to monitor sea surface heights for weather and shipping. The Falcon 9 booster landed safely at Landing Zone 4—marking its 500th liftoff with a flight-proven booster.  Noozhawk

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Women Winemakers & Culinarians Foundation raised $2,500 through its Pink Wines for the Pink Ribbon campaign during Breast Cancer Awareness Month to support the Breast Cancer Resource Center in Santa Barbara. Local vintners donated more than seven dozen bottles of rosé wine (the center offers free counseling, support groups, and wellness classes for women with breast cancer).  Noozhawk

SPORTS NEWS

  • San Marcos wrestling kicked off its 2025-26 season on Saturday at the Heart of the Warrior Tournament at Westlake High where the team recorded 27 wins including 22 pins — head coach Jesus Romero said the team will work on improvements ahead of its December 3 dual meet against Santa Barbara. Senior Anthony Leal led the Royals by winning first in the 144-pound division while teammates Gus Cooper and Tripp Jones also placed strongly.  Noozhawk
  • The UC Santa Barbara Women’s Basketball Team won a close 72-70 game over Grand Canyon today — avenging a 2024 loss — with strong plays in the final seconds. Zoe Shaw scored 17 points and Olivia Bradley led with 16 as the team improved its home record to 2-0.  Noozhawk
  • On Saturday, Westmont Women's Basketball won 63-38 over Montana State Billings to start the season at 2-0 — marking the first time they held an opponent under 40 points since February 3. They will travel to Nampa, Idaho on Friday and Saturday to play Northwest Nazarene and Central Washington.  Noozhawk
  • Westmont Volleyball ended its season with a four-set win over Jessup at The Murch on Saturday night—extending their four-match winning streak and honoring seniors Alexis Dennick and Nariah Prescott in their final match.  Noozhawk
