  • Santa Barbara is getting ready for a festive winter season with events scheduled through December, including sock skating at MOXI starting November 22 and a free youth concert at the Lobero Theatre on November 23. • After a week of heavy rainstorms and high winds, Isla Vista’s iconic Del Playa Drive washed into the sea on November 15—taking hundreds of shattered glass bottles, four dozen lime scooters and several damaged fraternity houses with it. Local residents and property owners have reacted with mixed feelings as they assess the storm's lasting impact.  Daily Nexus
  • Veggie Rescue is a nonprofit that rescues extra produce from over 55 farms, stores, and bakeries and delivers it within 24 hours to 69 local organizations—helping fight food waste and food insecurity. Founded by Terry Delaney in 2010, the group now funds a busy transportation program and plans to boost volunteer efforts and food donations with a new gleaning program and an annual fundraiser on May 21—aiming to increase rescued food from 700,000 to nearly one million pounds over the next few years.  Noozhawk

CULTURE NEWS

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Environmental Defense Center said it opposes the new Oil and Gas Leasing program by the U.S. Department of Interior that would open federal waters off the West Coast, including the fragile Santa Barbara Channel, to drilling.
