- ➤ Hand-knit scarves, hats and gloves appear at bus stops and public spaces in Goleta as part of the annual Chase the Chill project to help people stay warm. The drive runs through Saturday, Dec. 13 (at food banks and community centers). Santa Barbara Independent
- ➤ Officers from the Morro Bay Police Department continue their festive caroling event by driving through neighborhoods with sirens and Christmas music, handing out gift bags with candy & popcorn to children through Thursday evenings. KSBY

- ➤ Hillside is hosting the 9th Annual Shining Light on Abilities display, a free, family-friendly holiday event with more than 50,000 lights each night after sunset throughout December. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Santa Barbara officials announced that non-emergency offices will be closed for winter holidays from Dec.22 to Jan.2 (City Hall will be fumigated Dec.22-24) while emergency services and key operations remain open. Most services will resume on Jan.5. Edhat
- ➤ County supervisors approved a covenant change that lets the city buy the homeless shelter at 816 Cacique St so services continue after PATH ends on Dec. 31. Mercy House will cover operations from Dec. 1 — until the city council reviews the purchase on Dec. 16. Noozhawk
- ➤ On Monday, the city released a draft climate adaptation plan for water and wastewater systems to address flooding, erosion, sea level rise, and wildfires. Sounds and Stories of Greek Christmas
The program includes traditional Christmas music, rarely performed Byzantine hymns, and Greek holiday carols. Performing will be Opera Santa Barbara director Kostis Protopapas; Santa Barbara-born mezzo-soprano Xeni Tziouvaras who returns home from Florence, Italy for this festive holiday concert and acclaimed soprano Anastasia Malliaras who recently performed at the Granada Theater with the Santa Barbara Philharmonic.
